Wellington City
- the coolest little capital
Wellington is compact, cultured and full of character. Nestled between the harbour and the hills, the vibrant downtown area is ideal for explorations on foot. You’ll discover an amazing range of cafes, art galleries, theatres, attractions and a lively nightlife. Wellington is New Zealand’s capital city and the home to Parliament and the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa which tells the story of New Zealand’s history through bold and interactive exhibits.

National Geographic describes Wellington as “offbeat, unconventional and original, Wellington is a place where city meets nature and is incomparable to anywhere else on earth”… There are lots of things that make Wellington Cool-with-a-capital-C.

Bus or Train
Wellington is a very compact city with much of the central city accessible on foot. There are also Metlink buses running throughout the city centre, between the city centre and the Kelburn campus of the university (the conference venue) and to all the city suburbs. Fares on Metlink buses are currently half price to ease the cost of living. An Explorer Day Pass can be purchased on the bus after 9am for $5NZD. Snapper cards (stored value travel cards) can be purchased at most supermarkets and convenience stores (called "dairies" in NZ English) and topped up with extra credit there.
For information on bus or train services, visit Metlink.
